Importing Kontakt.io beacons

If you haven’t ordered any Kontakt.io beacons yet, you can do that using the Kontakt.io Store: https://store.kontakt.io/. Proximi.io supports all the Kontakt.io beacon models.

We also recommend you to check out the previous articles in this tutorial series to get all the basic things done before importing any beacons.

Please note: Even though it’s possible to add beacons into our platform manually or using the management applications, it’s highly recommended that you use the import tool in the web portal to add the beacons in order to avoid mistakes.
1
Create a Kontakt.io account.

You can create your free Kontakt.io account from the following url: https://panel.kontakt.io/signin.Click on Create a free account below the login form. Once you’re redirected to a new page, fill in the form by providing your data, email, and setting up your password.

Double check your data to make sure you’ve got the right email and hit the CREATE ACCOUNT button. Check your inbox and click on the activation link—your account is created!

You can also sign up using your Google+, Facebook, or GitHub account.

2

Add beacons to your Kontakt.io account
After you’ve registered and logged in, you can find the Add Devices box in the Dashboard. Please note that you need your Kontakt.io order id for adding the beacons under your account. You can find the order id from the order confirmation email and it’s also printed on the green paper sheet that was with the beacon delivery (within one of the boxes if you ordered more than one box of beacons).

3

Configure beacons
After you’ve added the beacons under your Kontakt.io account, you can see what those settings are, change their broadcasting values etc. As your beacons arrive, they already have some pre-configured settings. Depending on your use case, and if you ordered the beacons yourself or obtained them through Proximi.io, you might need to configure them. For best results in accurate indoor positioning, we recommend the following settings: transmission interval 200ms, transmission power -16 dBm (level 2)

When you change any of the settings at the Kontakt.io web portal, they’re applied to the beacons when you login to your Kontakt.io mobile management app (given that you’re nearby the beacons).

4

Obtain the Kontakt.io API key
After you’ve confirmed that you have all your beacons added under your Kontakt.io account, you can proceed and import the beacon fleet to your Proximi.io account.

You need the Kontakt.io API key to perform the import. You can obtain the API key from the main dashboard of your Kontakt.io portal. Copy to clipboard.

5
Import beacons to Proximi.io portal
Login to the Proximi.io Web Portal and head down to the Manage Inputs -> Mass import section. Paste your Kontakt.io API key to the field and click “Connect”. Tick "Remember" box, if you want the portal to store the API key for future imports. You can later disconnect the integration through the same view, if needed.

Next step is to import the beacons one by one by clicking “Import” link at the right side of the table.

6
Place beacons to the correct location
Select the right department and move on the beacon on the map to the correct location.
After pressing Submit, you will return to the view that allows you to import more beacons. Please note that the view shows all the beacons you have on your Kontakt.io account - including the ones you have already imported.
